Project: Lilydale Kindergarten
Location: Lilydale Primary School, Lilydale, Tasmania
Contractor: Rosier Construction
The Lilydale Primary School project was an exciting project located at the heart of the Lilydale Primary School campus. This project involved the creation of two distinct teaching spaces connected by a central common area designed for collaborative learning. What makes this space unique are two large sliding doors on either side of the building, which enable the room to function both as an indoor classroom and an outdoor teaching environment when weather conditions permit.
The design of the project drew significant inspiration from the site's historical background. The site previously featured a train station running through it, and this historical context played a major role in shaping the design concept. In a creative nod to the site's history, the main building was designed to resemble a train station, while a series of auxiliary structures were designed to resemble train carriages "pulling up" to the station. These structures serve as accessible and engaging spaces for children to utilize for both learning and play.
The Lilydale Primary School project successfully combines functionality, historical significance, and a sense of playfulness to create a unique and dynamic learning environment for students.
